The Project
Espai de marge is a project that starts in 2023 with the intention of taking root, growing and integrating into the cultural ecosystem of the Alt Penedès. It takes place in an old farmhouse renovated to host artistic creation, training and research processes. The house is located at the foot of the Serres Velles, in the municipality of Font-rubí, and is surrounded by 78 hectares of forests and dry crops (vines, almond trees and olive trees), which are also spaces for work and experimentation.
Espai de marge is a small and independent project, with all that this entails in terms of austerity, but also freedom, agility and permeability.
GOALS
ARTISTIC EXPLORATION
To give impetus to experimentation, research and creation linked to the territory, while promoting the use of contemporary artistic languages.
RECOVERY OF ARTISAN PRACTICES AND PROFESSIONS
To stimulate the practice, transmission and research of artisan professions that use environmental resources as raw materials, and contribute to the preservation of the knowledge linked to these jobs.
CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE
To contribute to the improvement of our natural environment through forest management, the conservation of cultural heritage elements and the promotion of artistic interventions that dialogue with the environment.
EDUCATION
To contribute to both the artistic education and the environmental sensitivity of people and groups linked to the project.
NETWORKING
To promote and strengthen local and international collaboration networks in the field of contemporary artistic creation; to support local artists and local collectives while encouraging the exchange and dialogue with counterparts from all over the world; to participate in the – growing – network of relationships between artists who live and work in the Alt Penedès, and to connect the urban and the rural in a two-way relationship.
LINES OF ACTION
- Artistic Residencies Program: to offer workspaces and accommodation for artists, artisans or collectives who work in line with the principles and objectives of EdM.
- Performative and exhibition activities: to organise small exhibitions, open studios or sharings linked to the residency program.
- Training and reflection activities: to organise courses, workshops and lectures on issues related to artistic contemporary creation, artisan practices and jobs, the Alt Penedès territory, the environment and the climate emergency.
- Network creation: to participate in networks of artistic residences and organise regular meetings with artists and artisans; to collaborate with other organisations and cultural agents, both from the immediate environment and from the urban and international scene.
- Elaboration of a Forest Management plan to operate in the whole property.
